Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains what information ABC Braille collects, how it is used, and how long it is kept. It covers both the abcbraille.com website and the ABC Braille mobile app (Android, with iOS to follow). The two work differently and the policy reflects that.

The short version: we do not sell or share your data, ever. The website holds uploaded content for at most 30 days and only the site administrator can access it. The mobile app processes everything locally on your device and sends nothing to us.

1. Who we are

ABC Braille is operated by enarmes pty ltd (ABN 80 119 427 324 · ACN 119 427 324), an Australian proprietary limited company registered in New South Wales. You can reach us at hello@abcbraille.com for any privacy question or request.

2. What the website collects

• Images you upload for braille recognition. These are processed on our server to return the translated text.
• Text you type into the Text-to-Braille, Braille-to-Text, and Contraction Lookup tools. Used solely to produce the requested translation.
• Standard server logs: IP address, browser user-agent, request time and path. Used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse.
• Anonymous usage analytics via Google Analytics (measurement ID G-ME5K62W1VV) and Microsoft Azure Application Insights. These tell us things like which pages are visited and rough geographic location. They do not store the content of your uploads or translations.
• Beta interest sign-ups. If you register interest in the mobile apps, we store the email address (and any optional platform or device note) you provide, solely to send you beta-test information. We do not use it for anything else, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.

3. What the mobile app collects

Nothing leaves your phone. The mobile app runs all braille detection and translation locally using an on-device model and a bundled copy of liblouis. Photos, recognised text, and any corrections you make are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage.

You stay in control:

• Saved sessions live on your device until you delete them from the app or uninstall the app.
• Files only leave your device when you explicitly tap Share on a saved session and pick an external app (e.g. email, cloud drive).
• The mobile app does not send analytics, crash reports, or any other telemetry. There is no account, no sign-in, and no network call required for normal use.

4. How we use the information

• To perform the translation or lookup you asked for.
• To keep the website running, secure, and free of abuse.
• To understand which features are useful, in aggregate, via analytics.

We do not use your uploads to train the recognition model unless you explicitly contact us and consent to it.

5. How long we keep it

• Website uploads and translations: kept for at most 30 days, then automatically deleted. During that window, only the site administrator can access them, and only when necessary to fix a problem you have reported.
• Server logs: rotated and discarded within 30 days.
• Analytics data: retained according to Google's and Microsoft's standard retention settings. It is anonymous and not tied to your account (you do not have one).
• Mobile app data: retained for as long as you keep it on your device. You control it.

6. Sharing

We do not sell or share your data with any third party. The only third parties involved in the website are:

• Google Analytics and Microsoft Azure Application Insights, for the anonymous analytics described above.
• Optional donation processors (PayPal, Donorbox, Buy Me a Coffee) if you choose to donate. If you donate, that processor handles your payment under their own privacy policy. We never see your full payment details.

7. Cookies

The website uses a small number of cookies set by Google Analytics and by Bootstrap/jQuery components. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block cookies in your browser; the translation tools will still work.

8. Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

• Confirm what (if anything) we hold about you.
• Delete website uploads before the 30-day window ends.
• Stop processing your data.

Email hello@abcbraille.com and we will respond within 30 days. For mobile, you can also delete data yourself at any time by deleting the session in the app or uninstalling the app.

9. Children

ABC Braille is intended for general use including by educators of children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

10. Security

The website is served over HTTPS. Uploads on the server are stored with restricted access. The mobile app keeps your data in application-private storage that other apps cannot read. No system is perfectly secure; we recommend you do not upload braille content that contains highly sensitive personal information about other people without their consent.

11. International users

ABC Braille is operated from Australia and complies with the Australian Privacy Principles where applicable. If you use the service from outside Australia, your data is processed on servers that may be located elsewhere; for the mobile app, your data never leaves your device.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be announced on the website's home page.
